Vedic Astrology - The Indian Way

The Astrology of India

Vedic Astrology - the Indian system of astrology practiced for over 4,000 years

What Is It: Vedic astrology is the astrology of India. It is different than Western astrology practiced in the Western hemisphere

How Does It Work: Vedic astrology is based on the sidereal zodiac - which means it uses the location of the constellations in the sky now, whereas Western astrology is derived from the constellation (zodiac sign) locations thousands of years ago. Western astrologers use the tropical zodiac, which is based upon the seasons and the orientation between the Sun and Earth. As the Earth spins it experiences precession - the Earth tilts a bit on its axis and as such the constellations do not remain fixed in the sky. They move the equivalent of one degree every 70-ish years. As a result, the constellations have moved the equivalent of one zodiac sign in time over the last few thousand years. Therefore, someone who is a Virgo in Western astrology will be a Leo (the prior sign over) in Vedic astrology. Vedic astrology is more complex than Western. It is also more fatalistic in nature. There is not a lot of wiggle room to live out your birth chart. The roots of Vedic astrology date back to ancient Hindu scriptures written in early Sanskrit around 1200 BCE

How to Use It In Your Daily Life: you can chose to use Vedic astrology by itself, or in a combination with Western astrology. It’s interesting to see the differences. There is no better or worse system. Ultimately it’s your choice.
